QUESTION:
I’m an amateur actress who was recently in a small production of a popular musical. The musical featured gender blind casting, and I was cast as the lead–a well-known role typically played by male actors.
Now I’m editing my resume, and I’m a little apprehensive. I want to add the role to my resume because it’s definitely the largest part I’ve been cast in; but I’m worried that it will seem like a blatant lie. It’s a role that most (if not all) casting directors are going to be familiar with. Is that a valid worry? Is there anyway I could indicate the situation of the casting on my resume, or should I leave it be, or leave it off entirely?

I would definitely include the role on your resume, and I wouldn’t worry about explaining it. If anything, it will intrigue some casting directors. They may ask you about it at auditions, which isn’t a bad thing, as it may spark a conversation. It will also show you’re a versatile actress, which is always a good thing. I don’t think casting directors would assume you’re lying, unless there were several unlikely credits on the resume.
