The Young Actor’s Studio

This school offers Los Angeles kids acting classes and teen acting classes. Established in 1996, The Young Actors Studio is dedicated to training actors in the following age groups: 4-6,7-12, 13-18. Artistic director Jeff Alan-Lee has been a child/teen acting teacher for over 20 years. Former students include Shia LaBeouf and Scarlett Johannson.

This LA acting school is focused on championing the uniqueness of each actor and merging that into written material.

Performance Opportunities: Quarterly performances (December, March, June, and then periodic performances throughout July and August). Performances are either presentations of original works by commissioned professional writers, or a collection of scenes and monologues.

Career Preparation: The Young Actors Studio is dedicated to providing top notch training so that students can meet the rigors of their field.

Degree: No formal degrees. But certificates of successful completion of programs/semesters can be provided.

$600- Fall, Winter, Spring Semester (Saturday OR Sunday Classes)

$1700- 4 Week Summer (July) Program

$500- 2 Week Summer (July) Program

What Students Need to Apply Interviews for all prospective students. The interview is a chance for the student/guardian to see the facilities, learn more about the classes, and ask any more comprehensive questions. The interview is the only admissions step. There is no formal audition for entry into these LA children acting classes.

KAT/CAM Acting Studio

KAT/CAM Acting Studio for kids and teens specializes in scene study, on-camera technique, and audition skills for the professional young actor ages 8-17.

The Studio is committed to providing their young actors with the training, confidence, and skills needed to book the job and make a great impression on set. The class environment is a safe and fun one where students are nurtured and encouraged to bring their unique selves and personality to the work.

Class size is limited to 12 students so each child receives a lot of individualized attention. The goal of the Studio is to instill a sense of love for the art of acting, teach the technical aspects of the craft, expand young people’s imaginations, foster a fun learning environment, and equip students with skills and tools that promote success and self-confidence.

The Studio is geared towards on-camera work in film and television.

Performance Opportunities: At the KAT/CAM Acting Studio, students receive more than just acting training. They also have the opportunity to work on a comedic web series. The instructors personally create and write the characters in the web series with the individual student’s acting strengths and personal interests in mind. The young actor gets on-set experience and work that they can show industry people like agents, casting directors, producers, directors, and, of course, friends and family. Parents and students alike are able to view their child’s work online and be able to see progress and artistic growth.

Career Preparation: The web series gives young actors on-set experience and teaches them to be prepared and equipped with the tools to work with other actors and directors. Students and parents receive seminars on the business and marketing side of the biz. KAT/CAM also brings in industry guests to see their students perform.

Tuition Fee: Class is $250 a month, 4 classes which run 2 hours long.

Financial Aid: There is financial aid available.

What Students Need to Apply: Students should have had some prior acting or improvisation experience to be in this class. It is for intermediate to advanced students. To apply, parent or guardian should contact the studio below to set up an interview and cold read. Students should bring a headshot and resume to interview if they have one.

Acceptance Rate: Students with a prior background in acting are usually accepted.
