Is 25 too old to start an acting career

by Adam

(Sweden)

QUESTION:

Hi, my name is Adam and I’m 25 years old. I live in Sweden. I’ve read your website and it’s wonderful.

I’ve always loved acting and wanted to become an actor. – My dream was and still is to pursue a career in hollywood. Sadly, I didn’t get the opportunity to pursue an acting career because of family issues. Now, I’m 25 years old and want to become an actor, go to U.S and give auditions and struggle, I know there is competition but, I’m not ready to give up. So, is it too late? I’m 25 and I’ve no experience and never taken any acting classes. Do you know about any acting classes or schools in Sweden? I’m deciding to move to L.A or somewhere else in U.S and join an acting school. Can you give some good advice? Is it too late? According to me nothing is impossible if you really struggle and strive.

Regards,
Adam S.

ANSWER:

I think you already answered the question by saying “I’m not ready to give up” and you’re ready to “struggle”. That’s true, starting at 25 with no experience is really hard here. It’s almost impossible to get an agent or a manager in Los Angeles if you’re starting out at that age and there are a lot of experienced actors going for the same roles you will be auditioning for.

I kind of feel like you, that nothing is impossible, but I think it’s better going into this career knowing you may never make enough to make a living, so you can plan.

You can up your chances by going to a really good acting school with ties in the industry, but those are usually expensive and there are no guarantees no matter where you go. Unfortunately, I don’t know about schools in Sweden.

Good luck and don’t forget to enjoy the process, no matter how hard it gets. That’s what it’s all about!
