What do i wear at acting auditions?

QUESTION:

Should i dress up for an acting tryout? Should i do my hair different than i always do it ?

ANSWER:

You should look like the headshot you submitted for the role. You want your acting headshot to look like you, so usually you don’t need to dress differently, although you can suggest the character by what your wear, which is very different from wearing a costume.

An audition is not like a traditional job interview. You don’t need to wear a suit and do your hair any special way. Just remember that you got called in because the casting director saw something in your acting headshot that they felt could be right for the role, so make sure you look like your picture enough that they will remember why they called you in when you walk in the door!
