The Stella Adler Studio of Acting

This acting class in New York embraces Stella Adler’s conviction that growth as an actor and as an individual go hand in hand.

The faculty strives to train actors who think for themselves and root their talent in the world that surrounds them. Emphasis is also put on imagination, action rather than emotion and text interpretation.

Robert De Niro, Benicio Del Toro and Salma Hayek are among the alumni, to name just a few.

The school offers a two and a half year conservatory and a one to two-year intensive evening program.

Classes include Adler Technique, Scene Study, Shakespeare, Voice and Speech, Movement, Stage Combat, Dance, Improvisation, Character work, Script Interpretation and Composition.

Performance opportunities: During the final semester, acting students perform one classic and one contemporary play in front of an invited audience. The school has also developed the Harold Clurman Lab Theatre Company and M.A.D., two programs that may offer more performance opportunities.

Career preparation: Graduating students participate in an industry showcase. The Harold Clurman Art series allows students to learn from invited artists through a series of lectures, readings and concerts. The school offers a master class to prepare graduating students to the acting career.

Degree: Certificate of completion.

What you’ll need to apply: A headshot and resume, 2 letters of recommendation, an interview and an audition (phone interviews and taped auditions are accepted). International students must submit an essay and short bio.
