QUESTION:
What kind of questions are they going to ask at a modeling/acting
audition for children age 9? And how should they answer the questions?
I mean should I coach my daughter to give long detailed answers or short
to the point answers?
ANSWER:
They don’t ask many questions at auditions. Not like agents do anyway. When they ask questions at kids auditions, it’s mostly to get a feel for their personality and to see how they will be to work with (ie. Are they very shy? Do they take directions well, etc.)
The most important thing is to tell your child to be themselves. They may be asked what they like, or what their hobbies are, or if they’ve ever done a commercial before. They shouldn’t feel bad if they haven’t. That’s not a bad thing at all. If they want to be here, it will come out in their answers, as long as they don’t feel pressured.
Do not coach them at all. Spontaneity and enthusiasm is much more important than experience at this age. Casting directors want to see kids, not little adults. They just want to make sure they will enjoy the process and stay focused and positive through the shoot. The one thing you can tell your child is that if the casting director asks questions, to imagine they are talking to their best friend. That seems to help. Good luck!
