Queens College Department of Drama, Theater and Dance

This is one of the New York Acting Schools that offers a strong foundation for those who want to pursue graduate studies in acting or other theater fields (actually, one of their graduates just got accepted into the prestigious Yale Graduate Drama Program).

Classes include acting, improvisation, mime, theater games, scene study, script analysis, characterization, Shakespeare, voice, movement, dance, directing, playwriting, design, stage management and theater history.

If you want to do Broadway acting, this Queens acting school also offers a BA in Theater and Dance, with classes ranging from ballet to contemporary, tap and African dance, as well as dance history, dance therapy and choreography classes.

Performance opportunities: This Queens theater school has 3 performance stages, including a large indoor theater and an outdoor amphitheater. The school produces 5 full productions every year, in addition to shows written, produced and directed by students.

Career preparation: Master classes with guest artists are sometimes available, as well as career seminars. Actors learn monologues and auditioning techniques during their studies.

Financial Aid: You can apply for federal and New York State financial aid, as well as CUNY scholarships.
