Flagler College

This acting college less then an hour from Jacksonville offers a BA in Theater Arts where you will train not only in acting and performance but all other aspects of theater production and management, as well as study theater history, literature, and related skills like directing.

Acting students also learn movement, voice and speech, makeup, theater technology, scenic design, mime, acting styles, film history, stage combat, costumes and children theater.

Performance opportunities: Theater students are required to work on at least 5 productions before graduating. The school produces 2-3 mainstage shows each year in a 800-seat auditorium and one smaller show. These shows are directed by a faculty member or a guest director. Actors can also perform in a series of student-directed one-acts.

Career preparation: Each student produces and directs a one-act play before graduating. Students can take an advanced acting class to learn audition technique and the business of acting. Actors can do a theater internship and participate in summer stock for credit.

Degree: BA in Theater Arts.

Financial Aid: In addition to federal and state grants, loans and work-study programs, the college offers need-based and merit-based grants, scholarships and awards, as well as a work program and theater scholarships.

Acceptance rate: The rate for the college in general is 26 percent (the lowest in the area).
