Shakespeare Acting Lesson about Finding the Character's Intention







Here, Ian McKellen demonstrates by doing one simple Shakespearean line over and over the difference between going for the intention of the character ("searching the thought") versus putting a mood on the lines. This short video is a good reminder that whether you're playing Shakespeare or Mamet, you still need to do the same work in rehearsal in terms of exploring characterization, relationships, given circumstances and objectives.
