Hand Movements when Acting

by Justine

QUESTION:

When acting and talking at the same time sometimes I don't know what to do with my hands movements, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

ANSWER:

Nothing. Don't do anything with your hands at first. Hand movements when acting often reflect nervous energy or the fact we're not connected to the material. Either way, they take away from your acting. If you practice being completely still for a while, you will start to feel centered and be able to move only when you have a true impulse to do so in your acting.

Being still on stage is very hard, as it makes you feel more vulnerable, but it also makes you more open as an actor, which is a good thing.
