Loyola University Chicago

This acting university in Chicago offers a theater major program. Acting classes include text analysis, characterization, Shakespeare, voice and movement.

Beyond the acting training, students learn all aspects of theatrical production and direction and also take classes in theatre and world history, criticism, literature, sociology, philosophy, political science and ethics.

Theatre students often have the opportunity to study in London during the summer.

Performance opportunities: New students in the program appear in a showcase in front of the faculty and fellow students at the beginning of the year to be considered for school productions. School productions include 3 mainstage shows every year (staged at a 297-seat theater under the guidance of working professionals) and 4 black box theatre shows entirely staged by students.

Career preparation: Internships for credit are available at this Chicago acting school.

Degree: BA in Theater.

Financial Aid: The school gives over $100,000 theater scholarships every year. Grants, loans and part-time student employment are also available.

What you'll need to apply: Transcripts, test scores, recommendation form and writing sample. No audition is necessary unless you are applying for a theater scholarship.
