Lake Forest College
Located less than an hour from Chicago, this acting college offers a theater major that includes classes in theatre history, directing, playwriting and theater design.
Students take acting classes that focus on a variety of acting techniques, from classical theatre to comedy, farce and improvisation. Actors also train in characterization, film techniques, voice and diction.
A lot of academic writing is required and several classes include field trips to Chicago or regional and local theaters.
Performance opportunities: This Chicago acting college produces 5 mainstage productions every year and more performance opportunities are available through independent and student-run theater companies, as well as an improvisation group. Actors have the opportunity to participate in the Playwrights in Progress, an original show composed of students' work which premieres at the renowned Victory Gardens theater in Chicago.
Career preparation: Internships at top Chicago theaters are available.
