Florida Atlantic University
This is one of the acting schools in Florida that offers undergraduate and graduate theater programs.
BFA classes include acting, voice and speech, movement, script analysis, dance (modern, jazz, tap and more), dialects and stage combat, as well as theater history, theory, and elective courses in directing, stage management, theater production, design, lighting, costumes and makeup. Sophomores have an opportunity to study theater abroad.
The MFA program is a 2-year residency program followed by a one-year professional internship. Graduate students study various acting styles (from classical to modern plays and acting for the camera) and combine intense work in voice and movement with rehearsals and performances.
Performance opportunities: The school has 3 indoor theatres and an outdoor amphitheatre. Graduate and undergraduate students can get cast in a wide range of productions, from full-length plays directed by a professional guest artist at a 500-seat theater to student-directed lab staged readings at a black box theater.
Career preparation: Students who perform in the summer theatre program can earn Equity points, which brings them a step closer to having a professional acting career when they finish acting school. Actors can take a production practicum where they work on theater production, design, costumes and lighting. Students take career seminars and the faculty is made up of professionals.
Degree: BFA in Theater Arts Performance; MFA in Acting.
Financial Aid: Scholarships are available for undergrads. Assistantships are available for MFA students who audition and submit additional materials.
What you'll need to apply: For the graduate program, you will need a BA, 3 letters of recommendation, an essay, an interview and an audition.
