Nova Southeastern University

This acting school offers a bachelor's degree in Theatre and the advantage of small classes (about 22 students per class), which allows for a lot of personal attention. Beyond general education courses and acting classes, actors study theatre history and styles, play analysis, Shakespeare and oral interpretation (including work on speech and characterization). Electives include music history classes, voice, movement, costumes, makeup, set design and directing. Students can also take classes that focus on specific playwrights or periods.

Performance opportunities: Students can participate in the school's productions for credit. This acting school in Florida produces about 4 or 5 shows each year at one of its 4 theaters (which include a 499-seat and 300-seat performance space). There is also a professional theater in residence at the university.

Career preparation: Students participate in technical theater labs, where they learn about lighting, set design, and how to work backstage on actual productions. Juniors can intern at professional theaters for credit.

Florida Studio Theatre

These Florida acting classes are offered by a professional theater in Sarasota that stages contemporary and new plays. Training is based on Stanislavsky and is available for beginning and more experienced actors. You can study acting, scene study, monologues and improvisation. There is also an opportunity to expand your skills with dance and playwriting classes. Acting classes last 2 hours and are 8 weeks long. There is also a special 90 minute improvisation class for seniors, as well as workshops for children and teens.

Career preparation: Classes take place in the theater's professional rehearsal spaces. Students of this Sarasota acting school can watch dress rehearsals and performances at the theater. The faculty is made up of theater professionals and guest artists.

ActTrue offers Florida acting classes and workshops in Hollywood, FL, throughout the South Florida entertainment market as well as across the USA. ActTrue Actors are from the four corners of the globe and have starred on Broadway, television shows, independent films, sitcoms (Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, etc.), soap operas and commercials.

This acting school in Florida teaches young actors how to access truthful behavior rather than how to say a line. The training is based in the work of Uta Hagen and her "Ten Exercises" that help acting students find "action with thought" rather than focus on emotions.
